The New Bride

THE NEW BRIDE

It was okay for us to sleep in the dark.
But I've just been sent to get fuel.
The new bride has to sleep fine.

It was okay to eat without meat.
All that mattered was that we didn't starve.
Now chicken has been bought for the new bride to eat rice.

We don't need new clothes.
It doesn't matter that mama's wrapper is faded and worn out.
But we have to get new clothes for the new bride.

Mama has not sat in papa's car for years.
Now the new bride sits in the front seat of papa's car.
They are going out.

Papa used to take us out on weekends.
Then he started to have busy weekends.
Now I understand why.

Papa never gave enough money to buy food.
Mama, a good woman, managed whatever little he gave.
This has been the ritual for years.

The new bride is here and spends a lot of money.
She is called classy.
Mama is called cheap.

We drink garri for lunch.
The new bride eats good food for lunch.
She's meant to enjoy, we were made to suffer.

It doesn't matter that mama struggled with papa.
There's a new woman who is more exposed.
For this reason, she deserves better treatment.

Papa can keep caring about the new bride,
While mother and I starve.
I know one day, we'll be fine.

  1. No lies here, it's the reality of the world we are in this days.
Our men, them say we fit marry pass one wife, but then, are we making things balance among our wives. It's sad how some men forget the good old days, the sheer love they had with their wives and the promises they made before they met their new love. It's unfair and selfish tbh.

Auntie Zainab, e weldone o. Nice piece like always 🙇‍♂️

It's All In Your Eyes

" Look into my eyes" has anyone ever said these words to you? Then it may be that such person already understands that the eye is a window to the heart. Deep connections can be felt with souls by looking at people. No, not at their figures but into their eyes. There's no place to hide once a person has gotten into your eye for the eye is road to your heart. Its all in the eyes. Your thoughts, your words, your emotions - anger, hate, pain, love, fear, agitation, tension the list goes on. Its in the eye. If one is observant, its easy to tell the state of another's emotion just by looking into their eyes. I know if a person hates my guts by the look they give me. I've seen pure admiration in someone else's eyes. I've seen jealousy, distaste, kindness, confusion, deception, love and even lies in the eyes. So I can say from experience that our emotions are in our eyes. But my resolution isn't based on personal experience alone. Research by Adams Ander...

How Inspiration Comes

It comes in form of a rush. I mean my inspiration. Just a moment ago, it wasn't here and now its here. One thing I'm sure of - if I don't put this down right now, it'll be gone and I wouldn't have it back. If by chance I get it back, it wouldn't be the way it came now. Inspiration's weird right? But what can we do? Have I mentioned already that its inspiration to write that I refer to in this post? I like to sleep with a pen and paper on my bed, because right when I close my eyes to sleep, that's when the words come to me. Now I have two options. I either close my eyes and dream, or I pick up my pen and paper to pour down ink. The end result of the first is a good sleep. While the end result of the second, is what you now read. Well then, this doesn't mean that when I drop my pen, I wouldn't sleep. I still will. But inspiration comes from several other things. Inspiration could come from how the clock ticks. It could come from how your...

How to Live a Happy Life.

Life's challenges has made our brain wired to 'survive.' Many believe that happiness is unattainable. No lies, life is full of its ups and downs, and sometimes we can't help but be sad, and that's understandable. But it would be self-destructive to think that it is impossible to live a happy life. Fasten your seat belts as you're about to learn how to stay happy even in sad moments!  1. Be Engrossed in the Positive: This doesn't mean lying to yourself about reality. I t means breaking down a seemingly challenging situation, identifying the pros and cons, and decidi ng to make the best of the moment.  To lead a happy life, you must redirect your thoughts from a negative perspective to a positive one.You can do this by knowing the negatives, but deciding to focus on the positive. Of course you need to look at the negative and figure a way out, but be careful not to become engrossed in the negative. 2 . Exercise regularly: Take this from me, exercise is a gr...
