Friendship; Gold, Silver or None

Written by: Olawoye Sunday Mayowa

In a recent interview with Pastor Poju Oyemade of the Covenant Christian center, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, of the Redeemed Christian Church of God said "make new friends, and keep the old,  one is silver while the other is gold". This statement has further awaken thoughts about friendship and relationship in our age. Our generation is littered with people with little or no friends, some keep a limited friend cycle while others have situational friends. The raging questions in people's hearts are:

  • Why should I have friends at all?
  •  Why should I keep an old friend?

If you ask the question "why should I have friends at all?" This is your answer;
 It's a common saying that "if you want to achieve faster, go alone, if you want to achieve faster and go farther, go with a friend."
 Friendship is synonymous to having company, while Companionship means having people around to do things in common, think, help and assist each other to achieve a common goal. Of course, friendship has been bastardised in my climes so much that people no longer value keeping friends. But to really enjoy life, "man cannot live in isolation", we will always need to surround ourselves with like minds in the journey of life.

 Why keep old friends?

As we walk the earth, old friends will always guide our choice of new friends. For instance, if you have friends from primary school, who were always challenging you to aim higher and it's indeed helped you, your taste of friendship will always be to get people who can pelt you with encouragement and the 'can do' mentality. On the contrary, a sour experience with friends in one's early life can undoubtedly create a sense of bitterness that will always hinder a person to associate himself with people deeply or make friends.

As we move on, we must consciously choose our friends according to our personal beliefs, and  our vision bearing in mind the general saying "Show me your friends and I will tell who you are".

It's All In Your Eyes

" Look into my eyes" has anyone ever said these words to you? Then it may be that such person already understands that the eye is a window to the heart. Deep connections can be felt with souls by looking at people. No, not at their figures but into their eyes. There's no place to hide once a person has gotten into your eye for the eye is road to your heart. Its all in the eyes. Your thoughts, your words, your emotions - anger, hate, pain, love, fear, agitation, tension the list goes on. Its in the eye. If one is observant, its easy to tell the state of another's emotion just by looking into their eyes. I know if a person hates my guts by the look they give me. I've seen pure admiration in someone else's eyes. I've seen jealousy, distaste, kindness, confusion, deception, love and even lies in the eyes. So I can say from experience that our emotions are in our eyes. But my resolution isn't based on personal experience alone. Research by Adams Ander...

How to Live a Happy Life.

Life's challenges has made our brain wired to 'survive.' Many believe that happiness is unattainable. No lies, life is full of its ups and downs, and sometimes we can't help but be sad, and that's understandable. But it would be self-destructive to think that it is impossible to live a happy life. Fasten your seat belts as you're about to learn how to stay happy even in sad moments!  1. Be Engrossed in the Positive: This doesn't mean lying to yourself about reality. I t means breaking down a seemingly challenging situation, identifying the pros and cons, and decidi ng to make the best of the moment.  To lead a happy life, you must redirect your thoughts from a negative perspective to a positive one.You can do this by knowing the negatives, but deciding to focus on the positive. Of course you need to look at the negative and figure a way out, but be careful not to become engrossed in the negative. 2 . Exercise regularly: Take this from me, exercise is a gr...
